We return to the Dresden Files shortly after the events of Skin Game, which readers would definitely do well to be have read before tackling Peace Talks because a lot has happened in the course of this series, much of which will be explored here. It’s been quite a wait, but Hell’s Bells was it worth it! When I first started Peace Talks, I’d expected it would keep me occupied for a few days, but as it turned out, the book completely consumed me and I ended up finishing it in a couple sittings.

That is still better than most authors out there.Įdit: I do agree with the people who say that Butcher should stop saying he will get it to the publisher by a certain date, then not do it. Maybe he drops off to one every two years or so. I also can understand if he is a little burned out, putting out so many novels in so short a time.

Maybe he will after he settles in to his life with his new lady. I sincerely hope that he will return to his 'novel a year' goal. His previous pace has spoiled Dresden fans rotten. Given all that he has accomplished over the past 18 years, I'd say he deserves one.

He used to say 'I don't have a muse, I have a mortgage.' Apparently he now gets enough in residuals that he can afford to take a break. He has moved across the country and had a house built. He also collaborated on the Dresden Files RPG, card game, and (I assume) the TV show.ĭuring this time, he has gotten divorced and just recently re-married. This gives us a total of 23 books over the course of fifteen and a half years plus all the short stories, all of the high quality we have come to expect of Butcher. On top of that, he has thought up 2 other universes, writing a 6 book series in one and planning and writing the first of 9 books in the other one. I cannot think of another author that has put out that many novels in that short a time that are anywhere near Butcher's quality. He also wrote 23 short stories and novelettes in that universe which actually tie in and are referenced in the main series. Jim averaged about a Dresden book a year through Skin Game (released in 2015).
